RECOLLECTIONS OF LIFE IN MONROE COUNTY
Interviews by
Marion W. Childs
(1956-1962)
These are interviews of people around Monroe County conducted by Marion Childs between 1956 and 1962, although I found a few interviews between 1949 and 1956. Most of the interviewees lived in Southern Monroe County, especially Erie Township, and Central & Western Monroe County. I believe Marion was from Erie Township so she probably started there. There are not as many interviews of people around Ash, Berlin, and Frenchtown Townships, but there are a few.
All interviews are different in length, some containing only a few paragraphs and some up to several pages long. Many of the stories are cute little anecdotes but most contain valuable genealogical information. However, if it is your family being interviewed all the stories are priceless.
These typed interviews are in two binders and are currently located in the archives at the Monroe Museum. There are 584 pages of recollections by probably over 200 interviewees. Little by little I hope to add each of the interviews to this site, as well as an index to all the names mentioned.
